Description: Within the last decade, advanced pharmaceutical technology has led to the development of new therapies for hepatitis C with cure rates exceeding 95%. Given the high efficacy, excellent tolerability, and improved access to hepatitis C therapies across the United States, transplanting HCV-infected organs into hepatitis C-negative recipients has become the standard of care at large transplant centers across the United States. This presentation will educate participants about the current organ shortage crisis in the United States, and how transplanting hepatitis C-positive organs may decrease the gap between organ demand and supply.
