What the Heck Now?! Late Onset Cancer Treatment Toxicities
Date: Friday, June 26, 2020 Time: 12:00PM - 1:00PM Speaker: Jared Freml, PharmD, BCOP, Clinical Pharmacy Specialist in Oncology at Kaiser Permanente Colorado Registration: Members: FREE | Non-Members: $10.00 Continuing Education Credits: 1.0 CPE
Description:
Cancer therapy has evolved greatly over the past 20 years. During this time 150 new agents have been approved by the FDA, and late onset toxicities that occur as a result of new cancer therapies differ from traditional cytotoxic chemotherapy. Because 5 year cancer survival rates have reached 70%, pharmacists in many areas of practice will increasingly be exposed to late onset toxicity management. This program will provide an introduction to the late onset toxicities seen with novel therapies compared to traditional treatments.
Objectives:
- Recall common late onset side effects associated with cytotoxic chemotherapy and oral cancer therapies
- Explain the mechanisms of action of immune checkpoint inhibitors
- Describe late onset toxicities associated with immune checkpoint inhibitors
- Summarize management recommendations for immune checkpoint inhibitor toxicities
