BPS Recertification Information

Are you a BPS certified pharmacist? If so, this information is for you!
BPS is updating their certification framework in 2024. If you are a newly BPS certified pharmacist in 2023 or re-certified in 2023, this applies to you!
Those who were originally certified or re-certified in 2023 are already working under this framework.
Pathways to Recertification
1. Option 1: Examination and CPD: Achieve passing score on a specialty certification examination and report 20 units of continuing professional development (CPD) by the end of the 7 year recertification cycle.
2. Option 2: CPE and CPD: Complete at least 80 units of assessed continuing pharmacy education (CPE) from BPS-approved professional development programs and report 20 units of continuing professional development (CPD) by the end of the 7 year recertification cycle.

Regardless of which recertification path chosen, the BPS member is required to complete 20 units of CPD per 7 year recertification cycle. A minimum of 2 CPD units or assessed CPE must be earned annually. Lucky for you, becoming a CPS member can get you 10 units of your required 20! See below for details.

Those who were originally certified before 2023 won’t be required to document continuous professional development until their next 7 year recertification cycle. However, it is never too early to get involved and start working on CPD! If it doesn’t apply to you now, it will in your next 7 year cycle so save this article for later!
