Advanced Services Resources

CPS prioritizes the optimization of our practice act to utilize pharmacists, technicians, and interns to the top of their education and training. This page is intended to inform our professional community on the expanded and advanced services allowable by law and rule in Colorado.

This page is not exhaustive of all authorities, but simply a highlight of more recent advances, and will be updated as new policies emerge.

Colorado Provider Status and Payment for Services

CPS has a top priority to advocate for pharmacists’ payment of non-dispensing services and the ability to be reimbursed via all payment models for the healthcare and pharmacist care services they provide, like other healthcare providers.

This page will serve to house information and resources regarding the main healthcare payers in Colorado, which include MedicaidMedicare and Private/Commercial payers and considerations for cash-based payment models. For information about federal provider status, see the bottom of this page.

CPS has also formed the Colorado Pharmacists Practice & Payment Network (CPPPN) (formerly the Colorado Pharmacist Professional Taskforce) consisting of over 40 pharmacy and healthcare entities. The purpose of this network is to form a community for sharing provider status experience, challenges, successes and needs. If you are interested in joining this network, please email your interest to [email protected] or to our CPS Pharmacy Practice Advancement Lead, Jessica Angleson, PharmD, MBA, BCPS at [email protected]

As always we are always open to your needs and feedback on provider status in CO. Specifically, CPS would like to know about barriers/rejections/problems so can continue to advocate and address these issues. Contact us at [email protected]

 NASPA Point-of-Care Testing

Point-of-care testing empowers clinicians to use effective, fast technology to aid their decision making at the “point-of-care” to improve patient health. Pharmacy-based point-of-care testing utilizes CLIA-waived (Clinical Laboratory Improvement Amendments -waived) tests that offer near immediate results in non-laboratory settings.  Pharmacists and pharmacies are increasingly offering this public health service to promote prevention, early detection, and disease management.

The NASPA Pharmacy-based Point-of-Care Test & Treat National Certificate Program provides an opportunity to gain the skills and information necessary to develop a testing program for influenza, Group A Streptococcus, HIV, Hepatitis C and coronaviruses. The target audience for the certificate program is pharmacists, pharmacy technicians, student pharmacists, schools and colleges of pharmacy, and pharmacy association staff. While the program is primarily designed for pharmacists, non-pharmacists interested in point-of-care testing are also welcome to complete the program.

CPS supports the NASPA Pharmacy-based Point-of-Care Test & Treat program by offering this several times per year. Stay tuned for the next offering.
